Firearms Act Response Falls Short — But the Fight’s Not Over

Thank you for sharing your concerns and keeping up the fight with me against a very unjust law on the Firearms Act 2024. The response from Western Australians has been overwhelming—over 2,600 submissions were made to the parliamentary inquiry, prompting a two-month extension to properly review them.

Many of you have shared serious concerns, including:

• Overregulation making compliance difficult for farmers, pest controllers, and recreational shooters.

• Feeling criminalised despite decades of responsible firearm ownership.

• Impacts on rural communities, heritage firearms, and sports shooting.

• Mental health pressures and lack of proper consultation.

• Infringement on property rights and complete disregard of human rights.

In addition to the submissions and input from primary producers, indigenous community groups and recreational shooters, medical professionals, mental health advocates, and government departments have all raised the alarm about the rushed and flawed nature of the legislation.
