Firearms

The new Firearms Act 2024 has created deep concern across Western Australia. More than 2,600 submissions were made to the Parliamentary Inquiry, an unprecedented response that led to a two-month extension to review them properly. Farmers, pest controllers, recreational shooters, and primary producers have raised serious issues about over-regulation, loss of property rights, and the criminalisation of responsible firearm owners. Medical professionals, mental health advocates, and Indigenous groups have also warned against the rushed and flawed nature of the legislation.
Although the committee’s final report has now been released, I remain committed to pursuing fair, practical, and well-considered laws that protect both public safety and the rights of responsible Western Australians.
